Trending: See the Inspirational message De Gea sends to Manchester United Fans World Wide after Man United loss to Spurs
David de Gea insists his teammates are ‘more united than ever’ in the wake of
Monday’s damaging defeat against Tottenham.
A Harry Kane header
and a Lucas Moura brace helped Mauricio Pochettino’s side to an emphatic win at
Old Trafford, preserving their 100% start to the season and piling further
pressure on a beleaguered Jose Mourinho.
The United manager,
who made six changes from the defeat at Brighton the previous week, snapped
during his post-match press conference, demanding more respect from the
assembled media and reminding journalists he has won more Premier League titles
than the rest of his current contemporaries combined.
Reports on Wednesday claim Mourinho is just one game away from the sack with players already said to be discussing the prospect of Zinedine Zidane replacing him.
De Gea, however,
appeared to address those rumours by tweeting that the players have never been
more ‘United’.
The Spain
international, meanwhile, is still to sign a new contract extension and is
reported to be unhappy with United’s latest offer. De Gea who has been the
club’s Player of the Year in four of the last five seasons, is widely regarded
as the best goalkeeper in the world and wants a contract that reflects that.
Speaking about De Gea’s future earlier this month, Mourinho said: ‘His valuation is zero, because he is a Manchester United player who, as soon as possible, will sign a new contract.
‘He likes it here, we love him, we want him to stay, he wants to
stay, so when a player is not in the market the value is zero.’
