News: Lukaku says he will be taking penalty duty for Man United after Pogba miss against Burnley
Romelu Lukaku has suggested he would have taken penalty duties off Paul Pogba
had Manchester United been awarded another penalty in Sunday’s win over
Burnley.
Pogba had the opportunity to kill off the match from the penalty spot in the second half, with Lukaku having struck twice before the break, but his effort was saved by Joe Hart, and the Red Devils endured a somewhat nervy final period after being reduced to 10 men. Lukaku went through on goal late on and felt he was brought down illegally, and says he would have taken the penalty had it been awarded.
Asked if he wanted a
hat-trick, Lukaku told MUTV: ‘I did, I did. I think I should have got a
penalty, on the last one. I mean, I don’t dive, I’m not a player that’s a
diver. ‘But anyway, I’m happy with the two goals. I’m happy with the win, the
way we played and now we have to continue and bring this consistency throughout
the next games.’ United had lost back-to-back matches and needed a response
against Burnley, and Lukaku was delighted with how the side played at Turf
Moor.
He continued: ‘I think in
the first half we showed a lot of quality and in the second half we showed a
lot of character, mentality. ‘We needed the win today, especially after
back-to-back losses in which we conceded three goals – which did not happen
last season. So we’re really delighted with the win and we have to move on from
this.’
Asked about United moving the ball quicker, he added: ‘We are
Manchester United and that’s how we have to play every game. Against Tottenham
we did the same. ‘I think the people now will see a different side to us.
Everything that we’ve worked on in the last couple of weeks is coming out now.
A lot of quick passing, runs in behind, lot of actions and a lot of chances.
‘As long as we create chances, we know we will score. And we defend well, try
to press the ball, the fans want to see that and we try to deliver.’
